Submitting Pictures For Print

We need your high-quality, original pictures for our calendars and printed materials. Printed images need to be high quality otherwise they appear grainy and pixelated.

How can I tell if my images are high-quality?
All digital cameras will take suitable images, especially if they are on the highest quality setting.

There are 2 ways you can tell if your images are high-quality.

  • Look at the file size, if it is around 2.5 MB (Megabytes) or over then the quality should be good enough.
  • Look at the dimensions, if they are around 3,000 pixels by 2,000 pixels or above then the quality should be good enough.

You can see the properties of your pictures by locating the picture on your computer file system and rolling your mouse over it. You can see in the image below that the file is 3.62 MB and 3888 pixels by 2592 pixels, so would be suitable for print.

Pixels

Please do not resize, or crop your pictures, just send them to us the way they come off your camera. Resized images will probably look fine on your computer screen but they will not print properly.

Are mobile phone images suitable?
No, sorry. Mobile phone images are not high-quality, their resolution is too low.

Don't let your computer resize the images.
When you are sending your images PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR COMPUTER RESIZE THEM. Your computer is very smart and when it detects you are sending large files it tries to make them smaller to make them more efficient to send via email. This is good if you are just sending them to friends and family, but it destroys the original quality and makes them unsuitable for print.

Your computer may just ask 'Resize images or send originals?' or you might get a screen like the one below. You can see that none of these dimensions are above 3,000 pixels by 2,000 pixels so please select 'Original Size'.

Where do I send my pictures?
The rescue has a special email address for photographs that can accept large files. Please contact us and we will send you the email address. If we display the email address here the spammers will get it, and we don't want that!
