Ava success

Ava (previously Bella)
Ava came into our lives in October 2018 and we can't thank everyone at German Shepherd Rescue Scotland enough for helping us to re-home this beautiful girl.
She really is the 'Gold at the end of our Rainbow'!

Following initial discussions with Carolyn and Dorothy, Fi visited our home to carry out a home-check and answer futher questions about the re-homing process. I had taken early retirement from a long term career in caring services and felt that I could now devote the time and commitment required to look after a GSD and a rescue dog in particular.

Ava's profile and picture really caught our eye and after receiving extremely helpful follow up advice and support from Dorothy,Carolyn and Fi, in considering Ava's and our suitability/compatability, we arranged with Volunteer Liz to meet Ava.

Her alertness, bright demeanour and ease around people immediately impressed us. We also witnessed first hand her anxiety and distress around other dogs, but felt that we could support her over this.

Since coming home last October, Ava has really flourished and brought so much joy and happiness into our lives. Living in a rural area, we have instant access to woodland, riverside and hill walks, as well as Ava being lucky enough to have a large park to bound around right next to our home! She is a great fitness friend, full of energy and curiosity. She loves being in woodlands, enjoying numerous walks each day as well as lazing in the garden or cozying up at home. Search and find games, chasing toys around our home or challenging the local rabbit and pheasant population are all favourite pastimes.

Ava's anxiety around other dogs has improved considerably, but she can still become distressed if she meets another dog unexpectedly. We are continuing to work with her on this and feel confident that with further socialising opportunities, positive encouragement and understanding, her anxiety will diminish further or perhaps cease in time altogether.

The support and advice we have received from everyone at German Shepherd Rescue Scotland has been invaluable during the course of re-homing Ava. Their dedication and ceaseless commitment towards the care and welfare of GSD's in Scotland is exemplary and we would thoroughly recommend anyone genuinely interested in re-homing one of these wonderful dogs to contact them.
Many thanks!
